Weekly One-on-One

A recurring manager-report one-on-one owned by the report that surfaces blockers and growth before they become problems.

HR & People 6 steps
When to use

Weekly or biweekly between a manager and each direct report.

Trigger
Runs when: Recurring weekly or biweekly one-on-one

The procedure

6 steps

  1. Let the report own most of the agenda; their topics come first.
  2. Open with how they are doing as a person, not just as a worker.
  3. Walk through their current priorities and any blockers you can clear.
  4. Give and ask for specific feedback in both directions.
  5. Touch on growth: one thing they are learning or want to develop.
  6. Capture agreed actions with owners and review them next time.
Outputs
  • Cleared or escalated blockers
  • Two-way feedback captured
  • Agreed actions carried to the next session
Tools
Shared one-on-one docCalendar
Note: The one-on-one belongs to the report. A manager who fills it with status updates has turned the most valuable meeting into a redundant one.
