The procedure

6 steps

  1. Before day one, provision accounts, hardware, and access so the first day is work, not setup.
  2. Assign an onboarding buddy and schedule the first-week meetings with key people.
  3. On day one, walk through the role's mission, the team, and how success is measured.
  4. Set three concrete 30-day goals that produce a visible early win.
  5. Check in at the end of weeks one, two, and four against those goals.
  6. At 90 days, run a two-way review: how the hire is doing and how onboarding could improve.
Outputs
  • A ready workstation and access on day one
  • Three 30-day goals with check-ins
  • A 90-day two-way review
Tools

Note: An early visible win does more for retention than any welcome kit. Engineer one into the first 30 days.
