The V2MOM is a one-page alignment framework built around five elements: Vision, Values, Methods, Obstacles, and Measures. Originally developed at Salesforce by Marc Benioff, it forces a team to answer what it wants, why, how, what stands in the way, and how success will be measured. This V2MOM template walks all five in a single working session.
Run this workshop when you are creating a V2MOM for the first time, starting a new fiscal year, launching a new team, or resetting after a major strategy shift. It is the foundational session that every later V2MOM review and check-in builds on.
Keep the room to the leadership team plus the key contributors who will own methods and measures. Five to twelve people is the sweet spot. Larger groups slow the ranking work that makes a V2MOM useful, so cascade team-level V2MOMs in follow-up sessions.
Frame the five elements first so everyone shares the vocabulary, then work them in order. Draft a vision anyone can repeat, rank the values so trade-offs are settled in advance, and prioritize the methods rather than listing everything. Name the obstacles honestly, since unspoken risks are the ones that derail the plan. Close on measures that are numeric and owned. The power of the V2MOM is the ranking: when methods and values are ordered, day-to-day decisions get easier.
