Operational Monthly Close

A month-end operational close that reconciles delivery, updates trackers, and hands clean numbers to finance and leadership.

Operations 6 steps
When to use

First business days of each month, to close the prior month operationally.

Trigger
Runs when: The first business days of a new month

The procedure

6 steps

  1. Confirm every delivery or milestone from the prior month is marked complete or carried with a reason.
  2. Reconcile the project tracker against actual work done; close stale items.
  3. Pull the month's operational metrics and lock the values for the record.
  4. Flag any commitment that slipped and the customer or stakeholder impact.
  5. Hand finance the operational numbers it needs for billing and reporting.
  6. Write a one-paragraph month-in-review for leadership.
Outputs
  • A reconciled project tracker
  • Locked operational metrics for the month
  • A month-in-review paragraph for leadership

Note: Lock the metric values at close. A number that keeps moving after the month ends cannot be trusted in a trend.
