The best EOS software is the one that actually runs your operating rhythm, not one that requires a separate admin session every week to keep current. EOS, the Entrepreneurial Operating System created by Gino Wickman and documented in his book Traction, gives small businesses a repeatable system: a scorecard, rocks, a weekly Level 10 Meeting, an Accountability Chart, and a method for surfacing and solving issues. The software question is: what tool holds all of that together without becoming busywork itself?
I have run an EOS-style system at Sneeze It for two years. For most of that time I used a combination of Google Sheets and shared docs. Then I started building AI agents: Radar (chief of staff), Dash (analytics), Dirk (sales), Tally (the agent that pushes KPI values to the scorecard automatically). The sheet-and-doc system broke immediately because the agents did not fit in it. That forced me to build OTP, and it changed what I look for in EOS tools.
What to look for in EOS tools
EOS tools should do five things well. Most available software does two or three.
Scorecards that update without manual entry. The Level 10 Meeting scorecard is only useful if the numbers in it are current. If someone has to manually update seventeen rows before every Monday meeting, the scorecard becomes a task rather than a signal. The best EOS software either integrates with data sources directly or lets you delegate the update work to an agent or automation.
Rocks that connect to weekly todos. Quarterly rocks are only as good as the weekly to-dos that execute them. EOS practice says you should break each rock into weekly milestones and track them at the Level 10. Most EOS software shows you the rock and the milestone separately, which creates a navigation tax. The connection should be visible in one place.
Issues lists that stay clean. The issues list is where the Level 10 Meeting does its work. Identify, Discuss, Solve (IDS) is the method. The software needs to make it easy to add an issue during the week, carry it to the meeting, resolve it, and close it, all without leaving the meeting view.
An Accountability Chart that reflects who is actually doing the work. In a traditional EOS implementation, the Accountability Chart has humans in every seat. At Sneeze It, Radar, Dash, and Tally sit on our Accountability Chart next to Bogdan and Janine. The software needs to handle that without forcing you to fake an email address for each agent.
A meeting cadence that runs itself. The Level 10 Meeting has a fixed agenda: Segue, Scorecard, Rock Review, Customer/Employee Headlines, To-Do List, IDS, Conclude. The software should guide the facilitator through that order and record the output. If you are doing that in a shared doc, you are generating a lot of friction for a process that should be tight.
Best EOS software compared
There are several established tools in this category. Here is an honest assessment of the main options.
Ninety.io is probably the best-known EOS-specific software. It covers all the core EOS components: scorecard, rocks, issues, to-dos, and the Level 10 Meeting runner. The UI is polished and the team clearly understands EOS deeply. The gap is the same gap that every tool in this category has: it is built for human seats. If you are adding AI agents to your operating rhythm, Ninety has no concept of an agent seat, which means your agent work and your human operating system live in separate places. That split is where the drift starts.
Traction Tools is the original EOS software, older UI but solid implementation of the EOS disciplines. Strong for teams that want strict EOS compliance. Same gap on the agent side.
Google Workspace with shared docs works until it does not. The seams show when you have more than ten seats on a scorecard or when the meeting happens faster than the doc can keep up. It also requires someone to own the document architecture every quarter, which is the kind of overhead EOS is designed to eliminate.
OTP (orgtp.com) is the tool I built after the sheet-and-doc system broke. It runs the scorecard, rocks, issues, to-dos, and the weekly meeting runner. It is also built to handle human and agent seats on the same chart, which is the thing no other tool does. Ninety alternative: when to look beyond it
The case for looking at a Ninety alternative is usually one of three things.
First, you are running AI agents in one or more seats and you need them on the same Accountability Chart as your humans. Ninety does not have an agent seat type. You end up with a parallel dashboard for the agents and a separate meeting for humans, which is the split-dashboard failure mode I wrote about in an earlier post on unified scorecards.
Second, you want the scorecard to self-update. Ninety requires manual data entry for scorecard metrics unless you build a custom integration. For a small team, that is a meaningful weekly overhead.
Third, you want the MCP protocol so any AI assistant can query your operating data. OTP exposes an MCP server (@orgtp/mcp-server) that lets any Claude or other AI client ask questions about your chart, your rocks, your scorecard, and your weekly meeting history. That is not a feature Ninety has, and it is the feature that makes OTP useful as more than a meeting tracker.
Software to run EOS: what the weekly cadence looks like in practice
Here is the actual Monday cadence at Sneeze It.
Saturday: Tally runs its last push of the week, updating all KPI rows on the OTP scorecard with current values from local data sources.
Monday 8 AM: Radar runs the morning briefing, reads the shared state files from Dash, Dirk, Arin, and Crystal, and writes the compiled briefing to the Obsidian daily note.
Monday meeting: We open OTP, start the Level 10 Meeting runner, and walk the scorecard from top to bottom. Bogdan's rows are there. Janine's rows are there. Radar's rows are there. Tally's rows are there. When a row is below target, we have the same conversation regardless of whether the seat is human or agent: what is the gap, what caused it, what is the fix.
The IDS portion runs in OTP. Issues that were added during the week are already in the list. We work through them in the meeting, close the ones that are solved, and carry the ones that are not.
To-dos are assigned and due dates are set before we close. The meeting takes forty-five minutes.
That cadence works because the software holds the data and the agents update it. No pre-meeting admin session. No stale numbers. No parallel dashboard.
EOS app: mobile and async access
One question I get regularly is whether EOS software needs a mobile app. The honest answer is no, not primarily. The Level 10 Meeting is a synchronous event and the scorecard review works better on a larger screen. What matters more than a mobile app is async access, meaning any team member (or agent) can add an issue, check a rock's status, or view the scorecard between meetings without requiring a dedicated session.
OTP handles this through the MCP server. You can query the chart, the rocks, and the scorecard from any AI assistant that has the MCP server installed, which is faster than opening an app. Bogdan can ask his AI assistant for the current state of open issues before a 1-on-1. Radar reads the scorecard automatically as part of the morning briefing. The "app" question becomes less important when the data is queryable.
