Gartner Predicts 40% of AI Agent Projects Will Be Cancelled by 2027. Here Is Why.

Everyone is bullish on AI agents. The funding announcements. The product launches. The conference keynotes. Every week, another company announces their agent strategy.

Gartner is not bullish. They predict 40% of agentic AI projects will be cancelled or significantly rearchitected by 2027.

That is not a pessimistic guess. It is a pattern recognition. And if you look at why projects fail, the answer is not what most people expect.

It Is Not the Agents That Fail

The agents work. GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, Llama -- the models are good enough. The frameworks are maturing. MCP connects agents to tools. A2A connects agents to each other. The infrastructure layer is solid and getting better every quarter.

What fails is everything around the agent.
